Need a Visa or eTA?
Most visa-exempt foreign nationals flying to or transiting through Canada require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). U.S. citizens and those holding a valid Canadian visa are exempt.
Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, must travel with a valid Canadian passport and cannot apply for an eTA.
All travelers must present acceptable identification at the Canadian border. We recommend starting your application as early as possible to avoid delays.
Obtaining a visa or eTA is the sole responsibility of the participant. Please check the requirements with your nearest Canadian embassy or consulate.
Invitation Letter for Visa
Participants who require a visa may request an official invitation letter during registration. The letter will be issued within 3 business days after full registration payment and will include the IRCC special event code.
The invitation letter does not guarantee a visa.
All applications are assessed by IRCC under standard procedures.
Processing Time
Visa processing for special events typically takes 30–90 days. Apply as soon as possible, including biometrics if required.
Once you receive your visa application number (e.g., V123456789), please email to csme.2026@ubc.ca so we can share the attendee list with immigration authorities. This does NOT replace your formal application requirements.
For detailed application procedures, please refer to the attached document: Visa Application Instruction.
